I’ve been a vegetarian for almost two years now and, as I mentioned in my last blog entry, I’m venturing into actually cooking for myself, and I’ve been introducing new products into my diet. It’s easier than ever to find good substitutes for the meat I used to eat, some so good one would never know the difference!
So I have to rave about my favorite product, Beefless Tips by Gardein. The tips are already cooked, you just have to sear them (takes 3-4 minutes), and the taste is truly incredible; almost impossible to distinguish from meat and the texture is like a prime quality filet mignon. I usually make one bag of the tips last for about 3-4 meals and use them in everything, stir-fries, dinner salads, even sandwiches!
This evening, not having a lot of time, I boiled a small pot of pasta, then seared the tips and stir-fried a broccoli/cauliflower/carrot mix in the same pan I used for the tips, sprinkled the vegs with garlic powder and a bit of thyme, mixed all of that together and added a little red wine vinaigrette dressing. Fabulous!
Gardein makes lots of other meat-substitute products, which I plan to use over the coming weeks and months, but I doubt anything will replace these beefless tips as my favorite. Whether you’re a vegetarian or not, you’ve just gotta try these!
